How often should I get my hood cleaned?
The frequency of professional hood cleanings depends on the type and volume of cooking that your business serves.
Recommended cleanings:
Every 1 month – Systems serving solid fuel cooking operations such as charcoal or wood
Every 3 months - Systems serving high-volume cooking operations (frying, charbroiling or wok cooking)
Every 6 months - Systems serving moderate-volume cooking operations
Every 12 months - Systems serving low-volume cooking operations (ex. churches, daycares, seasonal businesses)
Why does the kitchen exhaust system need to be cleaned so often?
When food and oils are heated during cooking, natural oils and fats become vaporized and get sucked into your exhaust system. The more grease build-up there is, the less efficient your exhaust system becomes. When there is a lot of grease build-up, the exhaust temperatures increase. This causes the grease to liquefy, and if it gets hot enough a flash fire can occur.
By cleaning your kitchen exhaust system regularly, you can remove these grease deposits and significantly reduce your risks of a flash fire in your kitchen.
Can I just clean my hood myself?
No, a kitchen hood system needs to be professionally cleaned according to NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) 96 standards. Kitchens can clean their own filters on a regular basis but need to use a professional company to thoroughly clean the hood, duct and fan. When looking for a professional company please make sure their price includes the cleaning of the duct and fan. More often than not we find commercial ducts and fans are filled with years of built up grease because the customer hired the cheapest company they could find. Remember, cheapest isn't always best!
How much do you charge?
The amount we charge depends on length of the hood, # of filters, frequency of cleanings, date of last cleaning and type of restaurant or establishment. We can come take a quick look at your kitchen hood and give you a free estimate.
Do you submit reports to the fire marshal?
Many fire marshals across Atlanta and surrounding areas are now requiring a compliance report to be submitted with every kitchen exhaust cleaning. We submit these reports after each cleaning is completed to ensure your records are up-to-date with them.
